City Treasurer

Primary Responsibility

The City Treasurer’s primary responsibility is investing surplus funds in the City Treasury in accordance with the California Government Code sections 53601, 53607, and 53635. Investment decisions are in accordance with Section 53600.5 of the California Government Code.

The Treasurer’s highest priorities are:

  • Safety of funds
  • Liquidity and availability of funds
  • Yield on invested funds

Statements of Economic Interests
The city treasurer is an elected officer identified in Government Code Section 87200 and files statements of economic interests with the City Clerk's office. Copies of the statements of economic interests filed by the above elected officer may be obtained by visiting the offices of the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) or the City Clerk. The physical address of the FPPC is 428 J Street, Suite 620, Sacramento, California 95814. The physical address of the City Clerk's office is 8130 Allison Avenue, La Mesa, California 91942. The statements of economic interests for some state and local government agency elected officers may be available in electronic format on the FPPC's website at http://www.fppc.ca.gov.


Biography 

Matt Strabone was elected to serve as City Treasurer in 2022. A treasurer and an attorney, Matt is passionately committed to helping the community, whether he's fighting for transparency and ethics reforms or volunteering his fiscal and legal expertise to charities and others in need. Matt holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California (USC) and a bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester. He also holds certifications from the California Municipal Treasurer's Association and the CFA Institute.
