CLIMATE RECKONING CURATED BY ALEX DECOSTA - Available through April 25

Humans have positioned themselves as de facto rulers of the world, all while choosing to be completely removed from the natural world. This has led to devastating consequences as we have sought to reshape the planet for our comfort. Industrial societies have moved away from a harmonious coexistence with nature and can no long access the ancient, arcane knowledge through which our ancestors sustainably interacted with the earth. Climate Reckoning is an exploration of that lost connectivity with our fragile home and if we aren’t too late, how we might get the chance to salvage it.
  
 Participating artists include Amanda Saint Claire, Ann Olsen, Anna Stump, Bridget Rountree, Cindy Zimmerman, Helen Redman, Irene Abraham, Jane E Hindman, Jennifer Spencer, Judith Christensen, Judith Parenio, Kathleen McCord, Kathy Nida, Kim Niehans, Kirsten Aaboe, Linda Litteral, Lisa Hutton, Moya Devine, Nanette Newbry, Nilly Gill, Prudence Horne, Ruth Wallen, Stacie B Greene, Stephanie Bedwell, Susan Osborn, and Terri Hughes-Oelrich.
  
 Feminist Image Group (FIG) is a coalition of artists who meet to organize exhibitions, discuss art, see exhibitions, and support one another in their careers. FIG Artists promote an inclusive worldview that allows all voices. As friends, they aid each other in their creative and curatorial endeavors.
 

A MEMORIAL EXHIBITION OF POETRY & COLLAGES BY JADE SOLAN - Available through April 21

"I approach the process of paper collage as a form of meditation and unknowing; I listen for what wants to emerge, with no preconceived notions or plans about what should happen. My only firm aesthetic commitment is the keep the process human, organic, imperfect, and truthful to something that calls to be expressed. I never measure or use computers." 
 
 Jade Solan
 (March 1969 – September 2022)
 
 Jade Solan was a professor in Grossmont College's Communications Department for 15 years. This posthumous exhibit, now on view in the Hyde Art Gallery's Patterson Window Display, has been curated by Jade’s spouse/partner of 30 years, Alisha Solan. After selecting and titling 50 collages, Alisha wrote accompanying descriptions for each piece based on her understanding of Jade’s intentions and information about images used in the collages. Displayed alongside these works are several poems written by the artist.
 
 "During our thirty years together, Jade and I made collages side-by-side and sometimes in collaboration. This exhibit showcases her collage work and poetry from across the last 20 years. Highlights from Jade's poetry that seemed to dialogue with the artwork were also selected. Initially, these collages were for friends and family as cards, holiday greetings, and gifts, but later we just made art to please ourselves. Our primary exhibition space was the refrigerator door at home."
 
 "When Jade died of cancer in the Fall of 2022, it seemed a shame for her talents as an artist to go unappreciated by a wider audience. We are grateful to Alex DeCosta and FIG for making space to exhibit Jade’s work and share her artistic side with Grossmont College and the local community."
